Popularity is something many people strive for. Songs have been song, self-help books have been written on the subject, and movies are made every year about someone trying to become popular. Yet they rarely show the negatives of being someone everyone knows.

One of those negatives is a long cell phone directory to keep track of. Many cell phones are equipped to hold 1,000 phone numbers and 99 speed dial numbers. Although I am no where near coming close to filling my contact list, I do hear complaints from people wishing to find an easier way of sorting and searching for contacts in their directory. When teaching my parents to use their cell phones, I realized they didn't know they didn't have to scroll through their entire list of contacts to get to the one they wanted. You can jump to the contact you want by typing in the contact's name using multi-tap typing. For example: to find “Grandma”, go to contacts and type '4' (for the letter 'G'), this immediately jumps her to the first contact starting with 'G'. If you need to reach someone with 'H', hit the '4' button again to switch it to an 'H'. This saves a lot of time when hunting for someone at the end of the alphabet.

Another option is to keep your contacts in an other device, such as an electronic address book whose sole purpose is to store that information. That way if your phone is ever stolen, you do not lose all of that precious information. Modern technology exists through the use of Bluetooth technology to transfer that information into a wireless device in the event that your contacts are lost or you get a new phone. This saves space in your wireless device for other uses such as mp3 songs, fun ring tones, photos, videos, and event information.
