Cell phone directories – age of enlightenment
I believe cell phone numbers played a critical role in why we are seeing such dramatic differences between teenagers today verses 15 years ago. When I was a teenager only a few people owned cell phone numbers at that time we used the word mobile phone. I had one friend that had a cell phone and is parents were loaded. Even back then he could only use the cell phone when a landline would not be available shortly. My point is, basically nobody had one. When I was a senior in high school one person had a cell phone number and other people had pagers. The one friend I had with a cell phone number was main point of contact on Friday and Saturday night. If you felt like going out and partying, you would call him. Everyone else would run around with pagers, they were popular but only because they were affordable. After my first couple years of college most everyone had a cell phone number. At that point nobody even had a clue what text messaging was all about.
After my second year of college I started to realize you were pretty much the minority if you didn’t have a cell phone number. I got my first cell phone number my third year of college but never used it, I pretty much only called out with it when it was necessary. I didn’t have a good enough cell phone number plan to really use it that much. After college the cell phone number was pretty much a requirement for any job. I work in the technology sector in a delivery type position. All companies seem like they have more the just 8 to 5 support hours these days and the cell phone numbers opens the communication up so much that companies are getting support easier and cheaper.
The cell phone number started the whole communication era. Teenagers being the social bugs they are given a medium they can use.
Why do teenagers use the cell phone number technology as much as they do?
All teenagers think about is what their friends are doing, and who is their next boyfriend or girlfriend. The text messaging service is the most used technology service I’ve seen by teenagers. There are some teenagers that send and receive over 5000 text messages a month.
