Nebraska
The state of Nebraska is located on the Great Plains of the Western and Midwestern United States. Nebraska probably gets its name from the archaic Otoe words Ñí Brásge or the Omaha Ní Btháska meaning "flat water," after the Platte River that flows through the state. Once considered It is now a leading ranching and farming state even before being considered as a part of the Great American Desert.
On May 30, 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act made the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, separated by the Parallel 40° North. Omaha was the territorial capital of Nebraska. In the 1860s, the federal government granted the first great wave of homesteaders transferred into Nebraska to claim free land. Many of the first farm settlers construct their homes out of sod because they found to few trees on the lush land. After the American Civil War, Nebraska became the 37th state in 1867. Nebraska has a long history of civil rights activism, from 1912 with the establishment of Omaha's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People chapter.
Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton. The National Arbor Day Foundation headquarters is located near his home at Nebraska City. The swing in the Hebron, The world's largest porch swing is stated to be at Nebraska city park at 5th and Jefferson streets, can occupy 18 adults or 24 children.
Nebraska is split into two time zones. The Central Time zone and Mountain Time. Nebraska is surrounded by South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, the Missouri River, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. The state has 93 counties; it takes up the middle area of the Frontier Strip. from west to east , three rivers cross the state. The Platte River runs through the center, the Niobrara River flows through near the north, and the Republican River traverses just near the southern part..
Nebraska is made up of two major land regions: the Great Plains and the Dissected Till Plains. The easternmost part of the state was worn out by Ice Age glaciers. The Dissected Till Plains were the remains after the glaciers left. The Dissected Till Plains is a region of smoothly rolling hills; Lincoln and Omaha are parts of the region.
Most of western Nebraska are composed the Great Plains. The Great Plains itself consists of small land regions, as well as the Sandhills, the Pine Ridge, the Rainwater Basin, the High Plains and the Wildcat Hills. The highest point in Nebraska is Panorama Point, at 5,424 feet (1,653 m). Two major climates are represented in Nebraska: the eastern part has a humid climate, and the west has a semi-arid climate. The entire state experiences wvast seasonal changes in temperature and rainfall. Average temperatures are basically uniform across Nebraska, while average annual rainfall decreases east to west from about 31.5 inches (800 mm) in the southeast corner of the state to almost 13.8 inches (350 mm) in the Panhandle. Snowfall across the state is rather even, with most of Nebraska getting between 25 and 35 inches (650 to 900 mm) of snow annually.
