Minnesota
The state of Minnesota is located in the Midwestern region of the USA. The 12th-largest state by region in the U.S., it is the 21st most populated, with just over 5 million inhabitants. The state is famous as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". Those rivers and lakes which gave the state its name, and its and wilderness, parks, and forests areas, offer tourists and residents a array of outdoor leisure opportunities.
Nearly 60% of Minnesota's inhabitants reside in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area recognized as the Twin Cities, home to an internationally famous arts community, and the center of industry, business, and transportation. The rest of the state made of western prairies now given over to concentrated agriculture; eastern deciduous forests, also heavily settled and farmed; and the less settled North Woods. The state's representation of being occupied by whites of German and Nordic descent has a few truth, but assortment is increasing. Considerable influxes of Latin, Asian, and African American immigrants have come together with the descendants of original Native American inhabitants and of the European immigrants.
The state is recognized for its moderate-to- progressive social policies and politics, its high voter turnout, and civic involvement. It ranks along with the healthiest states, and also has one of the most highly skilled and literate populations.
Minnesota tolerates temperature extremes distinctive of its continental climate; with freezing winters and scorching summers, the record low and high extent 96.6 °C (174 degrees Fahrenheit). Meteorological events consist of rain, hail, blizzards, snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, drenches, and high-velocity straight-line winds. The rising season differs from 90 days annually in the Iron Range to 160 days near the Mississippi River in southeast Minnesota, and overall average temperatures ranging from 2 °C (36 °F) to9 °C (49 °F). Normal summer dew points range starts about about 8.9 °C (48 °F) in the north to14.4 °C (58 °F) in the south. Depending on the place, common yearly precipitation ranges from 48.3 cm (19 in) to 88.9 cm (35 in), and droughts come about every 10 to 50 years.
Itasca State Park, Minnesota's first state park, is the source of the Mississippi River, and was builted in 1891. At present Minnesota has 58 state forests covering about 16,000 km² (4 million acres), 72 recreation areas and state parks, and many state wildlife preserves, all under control by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. There are 22,000 km² (5.5 million acres) in Superior National Forests and the Chippewa. In the northeast, the Superior National Forest holds the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, in which takes in a thousand lakes and over 4,000 km² (1 million acres).Toward the west is Voyageurs National Park. The Recreation Area (MNRRA) and Mississippi National River, is a 116 km (72 miles) long corridor beside the Mississippi River all the way through the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area linking an array of sites of geologic, cultural, and historic interest.
In 2008, Minnesota state was ranked with Vermont as the top states in removing garbage from public properties and roadways, according to The American State Litter Scorecard, offered to the American Society for Public Administration.
